Just do it, enter 2018 Dublin Rose Selection

Press Release – Sunday 15th April
‘Just do it, enter 2018 Dublin Rose Selection’ – Orla Tobin, Dublin’s last Rose of Tralee from 2003

It's 15 years since a Dublin Rose has won the Rose of Tralee

DUBLIN has won the Rose of Tralee five times, including the first Rose of Tralee Alice O’Sullivan in 1959, but it’s 15 years since a Dublin Rose emerged from Tralee with the coveted sash and tiara.

Orla Tobin, the 2003 Dublin Rose and Rose of Tralee and Maria Coughlan, the 2017 Dublin Rose have announced details of how young women from the capital city and county can enter this year’s selection process.

Dublin-based ladies are encouraged to take part in this year’s Dublin Rose Selection, hosted by TV Personality Brian Ormond, at the Talbot Hotel, Stillorgan, on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th June.

Online applications need to be completed at www.roseoftralee.ie/apply as soon as possible in order to maximise the enjoyment of the overall Dublin Rose of Tralee experience.

The 2017 Dublin Rose, Maria Coughlan, said: “All I can say to any young woman is to ‘go for it and apply!’ The Rose of Tralee international Festival has truly been the most incredible experience of my life and I hope to encourage as many young women as possible to take part in this year’s Dublin Rose event. I guarantee them they will make incredible friends and have an amazing experience. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my year as the Dublin Rose and I am really excited for what’s to come. Many people think that the Rose of Tralee festival is just one week long, but it’s so much more than that. The Roses and Rose Escorts have so many incredible experiences throughout the whole year from the moment they take part in their local event right through to the Festival in August.”

Maria was one of the 502 people who took part in qualifying selections in Ireland last year, while another 500 women entered selections in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Britain, Europe and Middle East in 2017.

The 2003 Rose of Tralee, Orla Tobin, said: “I met some of my best, forever friends through the Rose of Tralee experience and they are like my second family. It gave me the opportunity to travel around the world, become an ambassador for UNICEF Ireland and gather a lifetime of memories that will always stay with me. All I would say now is fill in the application form, put your name forward to be a Rose and whatever will be will be.”

As the Lead Sponsor of the Rose of International Festival, Tipperary Crystal will present the 2018 Rose of Tralee with a complete collection of Tipperary Crystal Fine Jewellery, a range of high quality products from their Giftware and Homeware Collections. She’ll wear the splendid tiara featuring the Rose motif as the central framework, adorned in glistening crystals and the exquisitely crafted Crystal Perpetual Trophy.

The next Rose of Tralee will drive away from Tralee in a brand new KIA from McElligotts Tralee, a World Travel Prize valued at €25,000 and a weeklong holiday in Kerry from Kerry County Council.

Every return visit to Tralee during the 2018 Rose of Tralee’s reign will be spent in comfort at the magnificent 4-star Rose Hotel, the home to the Rose of Tralee International Festival.

Rose Selections events will continue to take place around the world until the end of June with the qualifiers going to Tralee to take part in the 2018 Rose of Tralee International Festival from Friday 17th to Tuesday 21st August.
